Grimsby Event Photographer { Charity Night In Aid Of Breast Cancer Charity }

As well as family & baby portraits and weddings, we also cover events too.

Usually, these are in aid of a charity and this one was too.

We love charity events, and can often attend for free, and give a commission of the print sales as a donation to the benefiting charity.

This charity night, was heard about via facebook. A lady on there was holding the event to raise money for a breast cancer charity. We were only too willing to help her with this, so we contacted her, and put our proposal to her.

A couple of phone calls later, and we had ironed out the details. The night of the event came around, and we had organised childcare for our own kids, and Allyson, and myself loaded the kit into the car, and set off.

We didn't have to travel too far, as the venue was only a few minutes away from our house.

Once we arrived, we started to setup.

Background, Lights, Camera, Computer equipment and Printer. When we cover events, we use a professional, Dye-Sub printer that gives a lab quality print that the guests can walk away with only a few minutes after it was taken. Unlike ink-jet prints, they don't run or fade.

Then, the guests started to arrive, and of course, they all had their chance to be photographed, and then review the image straight away.

We had laughs, smiles, and the odd "Ewww, I don't like that, can you re-take it, please?", well, yes of course we can, that's the beauty of digital - you can see the images as soon as they're taken on our viewing station, and if you're not happy, we can re-shoot.

So, this is how it went for the next few hours.

All in all, a successful night. Okay, so more guests could of attended, as the organiser sold more tickets than she had guests arrive, but, these things happen.

We were able to raise some money for the charity, so we'd consider it a success.

Anyway, as always, here are a few of the images from the night.

So, if you're planning an event, be it a dinner night, a ball, charity event or even a corporate night. Why not have us attend, and offer a professional photographer, with On-Site printing. Remember, we can often attend for free, AND give you a commission off each print sold. Basically, we pay you for letting us come along. Now that's a great deal!

Grimsby/Gainsborough Family Photographer { Family Session in Gainsborough }

We're not ones to blow our own trumpet, but our customers are happy (That's what they tell us), and one of the ways that we are sure that they're happy is they refer family & friends to us.

This featured session, came to us as a recommendation also. Not just from one happy customer, but from two previous customers.

Here is the background...

So, the phone rings, and on the other end is Mrs K. She tells me that she has been recommended by her friend, and her sister. After the quick discussion of prices, we arrange a date & time, and the session is booked.

So, the day of the session arrives, and we get the gear into the car, and head off to Gainsborough - We do a fair amount of work in Gainsborough, And have a fair amount of customers out that way.

Upon arriving at Mrs K's house, and am greeted by Mr. K. I start to unload the kit from the car, and get it into the house. Ensuring of course that my car is not parked so it wont cause an obstruction to her neighbors.

With everything inside, we start to set-up. In this case, they'd cleared kitchen for me, so we had a good sized space to work with. We can setup in a small space (Around 7ft wide), but in this case, the space was well over 10ft wide, and about 15ft long, so there was ample.

All set-up, and a quick talk with the Mr & Mrs. K and what they want from the session, and any images that they really want to achieve. We begin with the daughter. This is usually the case, as we find that the girls are the most willing to pose, and have their photo taken. Then onto the boys, and the family shots.

Now, all of our sessions are a little more informal than the usual Sit & Smile type of portraits, we try and get the family to interact with each other, and have a play and a laugh. Laughing makes for a much better photo than a posed smile.

Each session lasts around an hour, so it gives us plenty of time to get the images, and to have a laugh and a play. To let the character and personality of the individuals to come through. As well as givng us plenty of images to choose from.

Usally, we would show a few of our favorite images as a montage here, but this time, I have compiled a short slideshow, as a video "Teaser" for the customer, and I thought that i'd share that here instead this time.

I would to hear some feedback on this "teaser".

This video is shared from facebook, and it has rezised it so the quality isn't great.

Grimsby Family Photographer { The Great British Weather }

A few months ago, we were contacted via facebook by a lady from London. She wanted to book a shoot for her Mum, as a surprise.

She wanted an On-Location shoot, but wasn't too sure about the location, so we left this bit open for now.

A few weeks after the session was arranged, the location was set, and all was good to go. Then, she contacted to re-arrange the date. As this was a surprise, her mum was busy on the day we'd agreed, and we had to arrage for a difernent date.

Anyway, time goes by, and the session date was drawing closer. The day of the sesion comes. On waking that morning, i look outside, and i'm greeted by....you guessed it...rain!

Not good, I have an On-Location shoot that afternoon, and it's hammering it down!.

Okay, not a complete loss I thought, we've been here before, and its always been okay for the session. So, the afternoon comes, and throughout the day, there are spells of sun, rain, sun, rain and it carries on like this for most of the day.

Eventually, the session is getting closer, so I contact the customer to say that the weather is going to prevent the outdoor shoot, so we can either re-arrange, or make this an indoor session.

One of the advantages that we have is, that with our mobile studio we can come to your house, set up there, and capture the images there. So, if a On-location session just isn't your thing, or the weather doesn't permit, then we can take the images at home, in a Studio-Style session instead.

In this case, this is what she chose to do. So, I took her mum's address, loaded up the car, and off I went.

Not a complete loss, and I found out that the Mum had three dogs, one of which was a Shih tzu.

We have photographed pets before, all sorts of dogs, but never had I met this breed. So, naturally I was keen to get a few images of "Dougal".

Here are a few of the images from the session.

And, after all that, the british weather wasn't that much of a pain for us. Yes, it stopped the session being outdootrs like originally planned, but it didn't stop us all together.

{ Family Session }

As we're a completely mobile service, it means that we can take our studio anywhere (well, almost). This allows us to work all around North & North East Lincolnshire, as well as parts of Lincolnshire.

So, we get to meet many different families from all around the area.

A while ago, we were contacted by one member of this family, who wanted a shoot at home, and wanted a family photo. They were 12 people to be in the photo, but we knew that we could accomodate this without problems.

Also, there was some photo's of the younger children to be taken too. This is more our usual subjects; babies and young children, but adults are more than welcome to join in too.

There was also a young baby to take photo's of too, and this little guy had a cracking smile!

Anyway, here are a few of the images from the shoot.

Why not book us and have a photo shoot of your very own? Simply contact us, either through our website (www.btcphoto.co.uk) or, if you prefer, you can get us on facebook or twitter:

{ Sessions In The Park }

Just a few minutes away from us, is some great outdoor spaces.

We have used these as a great location in the past for a photo shoot. We loved the photo's, and so did the client, so we thought, 'Why not do some more here'. So, we did exactly that.

We ran two special days, with bargain price sessions at two such locations on each day. We had a good response to them, and had a lot of fun capturing the images.

Okay, so the first day was Weelsby Woods, and the second was at People's Park in Grimsby. Yes, outdoor photo sessions...in England...In the Summer. Risky, I know, but for weather held, well, at least for the first day it did.

Here are some images from three of the sessions that we held over the two days.

The first, little 'O', was a very lively boy, who wanted to run everywhere.

This was great for the photo's, as it meant that they would all be very natural, playing, laughing, doing "his thing" was fantastic. And allowed his personality to come though, and allowed me to capture the images that the parents wanted. It meant their photo's would be of the little boy that they know, and see all the time. Not one who is being told to sit, and smile for the camera!

One thing this did mean, was the photo's would be at the expense on any professional dignity that I may have; crawling & rolling around on the floor to get the perfect photo's maybe wasn't the best way for me to present myself. But, at the end of the day, how I look wasn't important, getting the perfect photo was.

But, here a few of my favorite images from the session. I hope that you like them. I know his mum does.

Later on that day, we met a lovely family; Mum, Dad, and their two children.

Because the children were a little older, we were able to get some images, that were a little more posed, but still allowed them all time to play later.

It seems that part of the woods was going through a "mini-autumn", and the leaves on the tree's were starting to turn, and fall. This let us get some our favorite images of all; A Leaf Fight!

These are great fun, but work best in the autumn, so we thought there would be no chance of getting some today. Thank you British weather!!

So, after a good 20 minutes of leaf throwing, they were all covered in leaves. So we went to capture one of the images that Mum said that she said that she really wanted. We encourage any input like this, after all, they're your photo's, so it makes sense that you get a say, right?

Some of our favorites...

And then, on the second day of the sessions, we were at the People Park, This is a beautiful space, and that has been used as a backdrop for many sessions with us. We love it here, so much for the kids to see and do; ducks, flower beds, and the amazing Floral Halls.

Sadly, the floral halls are closed at the moment, but the rest of the park is open, and still looks great!

So, around comes the morning of the People's Park day, and upon getting up, I look out of the window, and am confronted by the sight of rain, and lots of it!

Disaster. Some of the parents cancel, and others are happy to dodge the rain, Fortunately.

In the afternoon, I meet up with a couple of parents who I'd met before. A few weeks earlier, we helped with some fundraising for the Firefighters charity, and they'd had their photo's taken with us there.

So, on with the session. This one wasn't a family shoot as such, as there were two mum's here, and their beautiful daughters. Both very young.

Not walking yet, so we were limited with the images that we could capture, but it still left us with plenty of options.

So, we head for the park, and get some photo's of them together in the basket swing. We had to ask some older kids if they'd mind stepping aside for a minute, while we took the photo's. And, they did just that. Of course, they stayed close by, to see what was going on.

After this, we headed for the flower beds, and got a lovely series of photo's of one of the girls sat amongst some pretty flowers. Mum loved these!

Just then, the heavens opened again, and we all had a mad scramble into some cover (Actually, some nearby tree's gave us some much welcome shelter).

We decided that shooting without cover of some sort just wasn't going to happen, so we headed for the Bandstand in the park, it has a roof, so figured it would be pretty dry.

Once we got over there, we were able to get some more images of the girls, both on their own, and together (The mums are very good friends, and the girls spend a lot of time together anyway). We even managed to convince the Mum's to join in, and have their photo's taken with them too - this is always a bonus.

A lot of people say "ooh, I hate having my photo taken" or "You're not getting me in front of that!". We hear it a lot, and I think (with the exception of politician's, and models), no-one actually enjoys having their photo taken. But, we say, give it a try. And some do just that, some even enjoy it too! But, nearly all of them will purchase the image. It's a moment that once it's gone, it's too late. Have your photo taken as a family more!

Here are a few of the images from this nearly rained off session.

One of the Mum's said "You can't tell its raining". And, she's right, and it just goes to show, that even the (typical) British weather can't dampen the smiles!

{ Its Been a While...}

Well,

It has been a while since I last posted on here, but I haven't forgotten, just been busy of late.

Sadly, not all of the images that I take, come with permission to post on the internet, so some of them don't get to make it on here.

So, what have I been up to recently?
Well, I have just finished a Nursery shoot.
Three days, in a local day nursery, that's was fun!

I love kids, guess that's a good job really, we have five (Yes, you read it right, five children!), and I chose the become a photographer. Some may think i'm mad, but personally, I love my job! In fact, I love it so much that I gave up IT Systems Administration, Web Development and Vehicle engineering to do this full time! And, still, I feel lucky to call this "My Job".

Of course, the majority of parents wont allow us to show the images of their children on the internet, and I fully understand and respect their reasons for saying so. As such, you won't find them here.

The last major project prior to this (excluding family & baby portraits) was being based in a store (A baby equipment store) for five days. 91 Sessions over the five days, busy, but still great fun!

So, what is to come?
Well, we have weddings, family portraits, a playgroup, a summer fair and a couple that i'm really looking forward to; A Maternity photo shoot and a couple of Newborn sessions coming up.

So, yes, we've been away from the blog for a while, but things are still very much go!

So, will blog some more sessions very soon..

Until then, you can keep up with us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/btcphotography and follow us on Twitter (@btcphoto)

{ Now That Looked Like Fun }

A childs first birthday is a very special event. It is a major milestone in their life.

If you have kids, then you will understand the importance of marking this event. One mother knew this only too well, and decided to have one of our "Cake Smash" sessions to mark this for her son.

Now, these are just what they sound like. Think of them as "Child Vs. Cake", and yes, usually the cake wont win!

In order to try and minimize the mess, we lay down a large vinyl sheet to keep it under control.

But, mess aside, they always seem to enjoy themselves.

This particular little boy was no exception.

Once we were set up, and he was ready, then his Mum brought in the cake. In this case, she had provided her own, but we can provide the cake as part of the session if required (as long as their are no food allergies).

As you would expect, he was a little shocked at the sight of the cake, he didn't seem entirely sure what he should be doing. This is pretty normal, we spend ages trying to teach out kids not to play with their food, to them expect them too!

At first, he started to precariously pick the decorations off the top, looking at Mum, to see if he should be. Then, after a few minutes, the destruction began!

Hands, fingers, all in the cake. Face, Hair, Tummy, Feet, Legs; All covered in cake!

Brilliant! What a mess!

I really enjoy these sessions, they are messy, but they are great fun, and make for excellent photo's!

Here are a few of the images from the session for you.

{ I love seeing how they've grown! }

It is nice when, after a few months, an old customer arranges for us to come back and take some more photo's for them.

Well, in this case, it was around 6 months after out first session.

Back then, the youngest 'E' was only 4 weeks old. Now, she is seven months, and has come on a lot.

Sitting, Rolling, smiling, almost a different child.

Anyway, once I arrived and set-up, we got down to taking the photo's. Their son, 'G', was still as lively as ever. But, I like it when they're like this, makes for a fun session.

Sadly, we had a bit of trouble getting him to hold his baby sister or even sit with her for the photo's, but we did manage to get the obligatory family group shot.

Here are few of my favorites from the session, but there are many more. Lets hope that Mum & Dad are as happy with them as I am.

Thought it was about time....

Hi,

I thought it was about time that we started a blog to make it easier to post our latest news, and to post previews from recent sessions.

Now, things are still very much work in progress, so things may be a little slow, but give it time, and it will all be here.

Of course, this is not going to be a replacement for our website Website or our facebook page. It is in addition to them.

Feel free to hop over to our website, or facebook page and take a look.
